Lizzie Grant MAR Dip. NNP
After working in advertising for many years, firstly on the account handling side and then heading up an information department within a top London agency, Lizzie felt she needed a new, more personally-rewarding, career.
"I re-met an old friend of mine, who had also felt the same lack of reward in what she had been doing, and she inspired me to investigate what had changed her career, and her life."
The key to both these changes was reflexology. Her friend suggested that Lizzie should take a course at the highly-acclaimed Maureen Burgess School at St. Mary's Hospital in Roehampton in SW London and train as a reflexologist. This she duly did, and has now built up a broad-based practice in Wandsworth.
As part of her continuing professional development, she has undertaken a number of training courses and attended several workshops to broaden her knowledge and further develop her skills. One course included training with Susanne Enzer, a world-recognised exponent of Maternal Reflexology.
"It was an intensive and fascinating subject, which taught me wonderfully effective techniques to support the mother and baby throughout pregnancy, birth and beyond."
She has also trained in treating women, and couples together, who are having difficulties in conceiving, with some success.
Lizzie works one morning a week as a volunteer reflexologist in the Day Care Centre in Trinity Hospice in Clapham, and has attended several workshops concerned with the specialist care of cancer patients. She has also trained in Hopi Ear Candling and has recently completed a two year diploma course to practise as a Naturopathic Nutrionist to add to her many skills.
"Using this range of complementary therapies, I particularly enjoy the challenge of treating clients with problems ranging from digestive disorders to infertility, insomnia and any stress related condition."
Lizzie took part in a feature in The Times Body & Soul supplement at the end of 2004 testing various complementary therapies to treat people suffering from insomnia. She was asked to treat a man with chronic insomnia, over a six week period, and the results were published.
"I am happy to report that, not only did my client start sleeping better from the very first treatment, he slept through most of the sessions! - he reported still getting a good night's sleep many months after his course of treatments had finished."
Lizzie works from treatment rooms at: Michelle Louise Hair and Beauty at 208 Trinity Road, Wandsworth, London SW17 HP; MDM Hair & Beauty at 416 Garratt Lane, Earlsfield, London SW18 4HW, and the Serenity Rooms, 59A Chesson Road, West Kensington, London W14 9QT, but will also visit clients in their own homes.
