The Healing Art of Reflexology
Reflexology is a touch therapy, the earliest reference to which was found on a wall painting in an Egyptian Tomb depicting the physician to the King applying pressure massage to the feet and hands.
There is evidence of its use in Greece, Arabia, the Roman Empire, as well as India and China but, although a book about zone therapy was published in 1582, reflexology didn’t arrive in the West until the end of the 19th Century.
It is based on the theory that there are reflex points on the feet and hands that correspond to every organ, gland, structure, muscle of the body. Gentle pressure is applied to these points in order to stimulate the reflex points and bring about a balance of the eight bodily systems.
- Skeletal
- Muscular
- Neurological
- Respiratory
- Digestive
- Endocrine
- Genitor urinary
- Vascular
in order for the body to work together in harmony and unison, and thus creating a feeling of well-being and optimum health.
It is a therapy that helps to release a client’s own healing potential by:
- increasing blood circulation and therefore aiding the carriage of essential hormones, oxygen and nutrients for cell life
- improving lymphatic circulation to encourage the dispersal of waste products and stimulate the immune system
- relieving congestion and other deposits in the feet (uric acids, calcium deposits) leading to increased circulation
- the healing physical touch of the therapist
Reflexology can be very effective at addressing conditions such as insomnia, back pain, hormonal/menstrual problems, infertility, digestive disorders, low energy, and sinusitis.
The one thing we can promise is that it is deeply relaxing and very effective at reducing stress and tension in the body.
