Hopi Ear Candling is an ancient and completely natural therapy which has been handed down to us through many civilizations. However, it is from the Native American Hopi Indians of Northern Arizona that it has come to the Western world.
The practice is safe, non-invasive and a pleasant experience. The candle itself, which is really more of a tube, is made of untreated cotton which has been infused with Beeswax and other natural ingredients, for example Honey Extract and traditional herbs such as Sage, St John’s Wort, Camomile and pure essential oils.
Once lit, a light suction action and the movement of the flame create a vibration of air in the earcandle, generating a massage-like effect on the eardrum. The rising air also has the effect of giving the ear drum a gentle, but pleasant massage which, in turn, helps to regulate pressure. The gentle heat also has the effect of stimulating blood circulation, which can strengthen the immune system and enhance lymph circulation. The procedure is comfortable and soothing and has a relaxing, calming effect on the whole body.
This induces a pleasant feeling of warmth and a balance of pressure in the ears, forehead and sinuses. It is soothing and helpful for earache and headache, excessive or compacted ear wax, sinus problems, catarrh, sore throats ear noise, stress, and in some cases snoring. Treatment may also spontaneously cause freer nasal breathing and an improved sense of smell.
The treatment is completed with a gentle face massage, which helps to stimulate the acupoints and drain the sinuses, and lasts around 45 minutes.
